"Grazing There Suspended": A Pastel Painting by Daniel Balter

Doug Dawson was awarded the title of Master Pastelist by the Pastel Society of America. Master Dawson once said, "We are all much better designers when we work smaller."

I also have found that working smaller helps me to be a better designer-- when it comes to composition.
And the smaller sized-art helps me overcome the intimidation factor of doing a pastel painting.

When I go out to paint I can fool myself by saying, "I am only going to do a few colored thumbnails, a few small sketches, I am not doing a painting."

This helps take the pressure off and doing thumbnails and sketches helps keep me loose and free.

I hope this looseness and freedom is apparent in this latest pastel I have done.
